Chicks News - 17th June 2022

This week our topic story was Superhero Dad by Timothy Knapman.

This was a fantastic story to read to the children in preparation for our Fathers Day celebrations on Sunday. This story is all about a Dad that does not wear a superhero mask or his pants outside his trousers, but his super snores can be heard a thousand miles away! He tells super jokes and can even make super scary monsters go away at bedtime. The Chicks loved this story and it was a wonderful way to get us thinking about all the way our Daddy’s are superheroes too.

The Chicks got very creative this week in Art when making their Father’s Day cards. They created wonderful fish themed cards where they carefully added coloured fingerprints to the body of their fish and then with their painted hands the children completed their fish by adding a tail. They were all very proud of their cards and extremely excited to give them to their Daddies on Sunday!

During our Literacy activity the children signed their Father’s Day card and added lots of kisses too. The older Chicks were able to independently write their names while the younger Chicks traced over the yellow writing.

The highlight this week however was by far our ‘Bring Daddy to School Day’ on Friday. The children were all very excited to have their Daddies come and play with them at nursery. The Children reminded their Daddies that they must wash their hands before exploring their learning environments.

The Chicks and their Daddies played with water, made superhero medals and made dens for the wild animals with the coloured insets. It was very hot in the Outdoor Learning Environment so they cooled down with the spray bottles. They showed their Daddies how adventurous they all are by taking risks climbing around the climbing frame, coming down the fireman’s pole and climbing up the climbing walls.

During our cooking activity the children named all the ingredients we used to make smoothies and used their fine motor skills to carefully cut up bananas before adding raspberries and blueberries to make their smoothies. It was very thirsty work having the Daddies at nursery and they all enjoyed the smoothies they made. Yummy!
