This weeks learning was inspired by the book Busy People Police Officer.  During our Focus Time lesson we discussed the important jobs that the police do in the community and learned a new song about how the police can help us. The children also learned new vocabulary what a police officer wears and carries when on duty.

We also used the book as an opportnity to explore ways to stay safe, such as when we go on our Outdoor Learning Days. The Pink and the Green Chicks have been introduced to the letter p for Police whilst the Purple Chicks and the Hatchings continued with their rhyming and syllables early phonics work.

During the Art activity this week the children created their own police car out of a paper plate and various shapes such as yellow squares, red rectangles and a star. We encouraged the children to name the shapes and discuss how they created the car and what materials they used.

Our Role Play Area was set up as a Police Station which inspired the children to set up role play scenarios such as working together to solve a crime scene. The children extended their communication and language skills and built relationships with their peers.

The Pink and the Green Chicks were looking forward to their Outdoor Learning Day where they created an autumn leaf kebab by using a two step pattern from the leaves we collected last week. The Purple Chicks and the Hatchlings continued their Listing Walks where they listened for environmental sounds and named them.

We are also very lucky to be welcoming a Police Officer at 345 Nursery on Wednesday 21st October to learn more about the police next week.
