This week's learning was inspired by the lovely book, Mr Panda’s Feelings. It introduces the concepts of “happy”, “sad”, “scared” and “angry”. We spent the week discussing our feelings during Circle Time to give the children the opportunity to reflect and name their own feelings.
During our Focus Time lessons we identified and named feeling and discussed what makes us happy sad or angry. For our Cooking lesson the children created faces on a muffin using olives, pepper and cherry tomatoes. The children were encouraged to describe the emotion on their muffin face and it was amazing to see the amount of different emotions that were depicted.
During our Art activity the children created the Panda’s face related to our Topic Book. They added white paint on coloured paper, folded it in the middle, opened it again and added pre cut ears, mouth and a nose to the face. They children were able to decide how their Panda was feeling and were encouraged to share their ideas of why their Panda was feeling sad, happy or angry.
We kept our Role Play area as a ‘Home Corner’ to help the new children to settle in and give all children opportunities to act out familiar scenarios from their home life, practicing their communication and social skills. But, to extend their play, we added further resources including the cot and the dolls as well as an ironing board and a wide range of play food to support the children’s learning.
The Pink and the Green Chicks also enjoyed their their first trip to the common. The children recapped how to walk on the rope and were introduced to the Safe Zone and the safety rules. They loved exploring nature, balancing on the beams, climbing on the trees, observing insects and making up role play scenarios.
