This week, the Chicks had a wonderful time learning through play, exploration, and creativity, inspired by our focus story I’m the Fire Engine Driver by David Semple.
The children explored colour mixing in a variety of exciting ways, using paint, shaving foam, and toy cars. They discovered how red and yellow make orange, and red and blue make purple, showing great curiosity and excitement. These activities also supported their physical development by strengthening their arm and hand muscles.
Through imaginative play on the carpet and in the role-play areas, the children created their own rescue stories using firefighters, police officers, hospitals, and home corner resources. They enjoyed caring for baby dolls, rescuing people, and acting out real-life experiences, which supported their communication, language, and personal, social, and emotional development.
The children also developed their fine motor skills through a range of activities, including playdough modelling, cutting with scissors, mark making and using construction toys such as Duplo, magnetic tiles, and Mega Blocks. They showed great creativity when building vehicles, houses, and castles, as well as when making playdough creations such as cakes and bunnies.
In Maths, the children practised early counting, sorting, and grouping through games, puzzles, and activities such as rolling dice, matching shapes, and organising objects by colour. They demonstrated good teamwork, turn-taking, and problem-solving skills while working together.
The Outdoor Learning Environment was full of excitement, with bug hunts, water play, climbing, riding tricycles, and playing games of “What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?”. The children also enjoyed creative activities such as drawing on chalkboards and exploring books on picnic blankets.
Special highlights of the week included making breadsticks during our weekly cooking session and going on an Outdoor Learning Walk to search for bugs and dinosaurs.
We are looking forward to the next exciting week ahead at 345 Wandsworth.
