The Chicks have had a very busy week at 345 Wandsworth. During the week we enjoyed exploring a variety of activities inspired by our Topic Story ‘Up, Up, Up! by Susan Reed. This airborne adventure took us ballooning over lands near and far, all the way to the stars. We enjoyed an aerial view of the planet when we set sail in a hot-air balloon with three children and their small, inquisitive dog.
During Free Play to practice our Fine Motors Skills we used Loose Parts to decorate a paper hot air balloon and enjoyed threading different beads. We talked about emotions when using the playdough to make happy or sad faces on the face mats. On the rug we explored the Airport. We pretended to fly our planes to different holiday destinations, we talked about what we can do at the airport and what we need when we are going on holiday. On the rug we also explored Peppa Pig World, Mega Blocks and garage and cars.
On our Maths table this week we explored numbers and we tried to match quantities to the numerals. Our Role Play Area has been set up as a Space Station and Chicks has a lot of fun pretending to go to different planets and talking about what we might be able to see from the windows.
For our Maths Focus Time we practised counting, counting how many Unifix were in our tower. We also completed an activity sheet where we stuck photos of people in the hot air balloon and we counted how many we had.
During Communication and Language Focus Time we explored positional language. First we used a coconut shell placing a crocodile on top, underneath or next to. Then we completed an activity sheet.
During our Outdoor Learning Walk the Chicks looked at the sky and talked about what they could see. We saw some birds and we talked about why we couldn’t see any aeroplanes because it was too cloudy. Everyone did extremely well during the walk and we held the rope at all times. In Art we embraced the children’s love of painting and design. During our collaborative Art activity the Chicks created a hot air balloon and also made individual landmarks using different materials and techniques.
For our Science Focus Time we conducted an experiment with baking soda, vinegar and a balloon. We put the soda inside the balloon and poured the vinegar into the bottle. Then we put the balloon over the bottle and when soda and vinegar mixed together the gas inflated our balloon. We were so excited to watch our balloon become bigger and bigger.
During our Write Dance session the Chicks went on a bus journey. We used both hands to make horizontal and vertical movements in the air and we also made horizontal and vertical movements on the table with both hands in the shaving foam.
In the Outdoor Learning Environment we played tennis, had fun riding the tricycles and cars, popped bubbles and explored the farm and farm animals. We named all the animals and what sounds they make and enjoyed singing ‘Old Macdonald’ together. We also listened to stories, cooked in the Mud Kitchen, made sandcastles in the sand pit, slid the balls down the drain pipes, practised taking turns when we explored a marble run and used spray bottles and large pens to clean the chalkboard.
We are looking forward to another busy week next week at 345 Wandsworth.
