Fledglings News - 22nd November 2024

Christmas is fast approaching and in the Fledglings classroom this week we have begun our preparations for Christmas. Every year the children design a selection of gifts to take home and we endeavour to keep these as a surprise for the families. As we begin the festive season the classroom has been filled with Christmas related activities and the children have shown lots of engagement with the activities, making links between their learning from last year and our current activities.

This week's Topic story is The Christmas Book by Dick Bruna. This is a charming story that retells the birth of baby Jesus using simple text and charming illustrations. The children copied the illustrations from the story during Free Play and it was wonderful to see how much detail they included in their sketches.

The themes from the book have woven into the children's play this week and the Fledglings have enjoyed building stables with Duplo, wooden blocks and the Magnatiles.

We are in full swing of Nativity rehearsals and the children are doing brilliantly at remembering their lines and singing the songs. This is our focus for our Music lessons with Mr Alex and they all sang with great gusto.

The Fledglings attended the Secret Garden this week where they continued to develop their gross movements though making large movements while listening to drum music. The children loved exploring the ice that they found and discovering different ways to defrost the ice. When asked the question why there was ice the reply came back as "Jack Frost has been and he lives with Father Christmas."

We look forward to another busy week in the Fledglings classroom next week where we will be continuing with our Christmas themes.
