The Fledglings have continued to explore different artists in preparation for our Art Exhibition and this week we have been looking at the work of abstract sculpture artist Yasue Maetake. The children created sculptures using a variety of materials including wooden planks, cardboard tubes, old keys, nuts and bolts, wire, fabric, plasticine and pipe cleaners. It was fascinating to watch their creativity come to life and explore the resources in a variety of ways. The activity was so popular the children returned to it several times throughout the week, adding and refining their creations.

Alongside all this creativity we also explored other areas of the EYFS. We looked at extending our phonics knowledge using AnimaPhonics, which is the phonics programme we use and we have been blending CVC words. During our Maths activities we looked at estimating and using the < symbol to represent greater than and less than.

We enjoyed a lovely sunny day on the common where we continued with our Jackson Pollock art project and delighted in strengthening our gross motor skills as we navigated climbing trees and balancing on the fallen logs.

The highlight of the week was our Art Lecture where we had Mr Andrew join us to teach us about the work of Joan Miro. Mr Andrew teaches at Chelsea and Westminster College and we were delighted to welcome him to the classroom.
