This week the Fledglings have been busy preparing for ‘Bring Grandparents to School Day’. In anticipation of the big day, the children created beautiful pictures of their grandparents using felt pens and watercolours, whilst sharing details about adventures they have been on together or favourite memories. The children loved adding their own creative touches including earrings and one set of grandparents had green hair!
During our weekly Music lesson we practised the songs we would sing for the grandparents when they joined us, learning some classics such as Louis Armstrong’s ‘Wonderful World’ and the Beatles ‘Yellow Submarine’ as well as adding creative verses to familiar songs. I think “The Granny’s on the bus say ‘What times Bingo?" will be a permanent change when we sing ‘The Wheels on the Bus’.
The Fledglings continue to enjoy the full mornings we spend on the common for our Outdoor Learning Day. This week we created nature kebabs using conkers and leaves. The children delighted in finding treasures to add to their ‘kebabs’ and we incorporated building Maths vocabulary into the activity as we compared who had the most, more, fewer, fewest and least.
The highlight of the week was Friday morning when we welcomed so many of the grandparents into the classroom to see the children and participate in activities together. The children sang beautifully and we loved hearing our Topic Story How to Read to a Grandma or Grandpa together.
