This week our Topic Book was My Mum Is Fantastic by Nick Butterworth; a warm and cheerful children’s story about how amazing mums can be. The child describes all the wonderful things their mum does, from helping and caring to making everyday moments fun. The story shows that mums are strong, kind and full of love. With simple words and bright illustrations, the book celebrates how special mums are.
This week the children have been celebrating their Mummies and talking about how fantastic they are. They made Mother’s Day cards using cupcake cases to create flowers. The older Chicks carefully cut small snips into the cupcake cases, helping to develop their fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination.
During our cooking lesson, the children made flower and heart-shaped biscuits. They worked together to mix the biscuit dough and then chose which cutters they would like to use. This activity encouraged teamwork and decision making while also being lots of fun.
The children’s Outdoor Learning Walk this week focused on looking for bugs and spotting birds in their natural environment. With the older Chicks, we also discussed the habitats of the bugs and birds and where they like to live.
The highlight of the week however was our Bring Mummy to School Day, where the children were very proud to showcase their mummies while making their Easter bonnets together.
