This week the Chicks Topic story was How Do I Feel by Anthony Browne. This story offered a great introduction to the topic of feelings and emotions. As you go through the book the monkey shares with you how he is feeling; “Sometimes I feel lonely, sometimes I feel very happy and sometimes I feel sad.”
Throughout the week the children were encouraged to share their emotions with us and we discovered that sometimes we feel sad but mostly we are happy. The children loved finding their photos on the emotion board and matching their photos to the happy emotion on the board.
We extended the children’s learning through our Write Dance session where the children practised making circles using colourful scarves, flour and chalk while singing and moving to the song “If You're Happy And You Know it”.
The children have loved exploring playdough, where they practised a variety of skills. They have been manipulating the dough by squeezing, rolling, poking and patting it which has been supporting their hand muscles.
Alongside this the children are learning the routines of nursery life, building friendships and relationships with their teachers and strengthening and developing their physical skills through the variety of activities and experiences offered.
