This week we celebrated World Porridge Day and so we chose the Topic Story ‘The Magic Porridge Pot’ retold by Alan MacDonald to introduce the celebration. The children enjoyed listening to the story during our Outdoor Learning Walk where we used our safe zone to sit beautifully together. The Chicks loved repeating the magic words to start and stop the porridge pot. We incorporated the story into our learning, using props to retell the story and even made our own porridge.

The Chicks weighed out the oats and measured the milk. We used different types of fruit to make faces on our porridge and talked about the charity we were supporting for World Porridge Day - ‘Mary’s Meals’. We discussed why it's important to help other people and thought about children who don’t have enough to eat.

Throughout the week the children enjoyed exercising their Gross Motor Skills with obstacle courses in the Outdoor Learning Environment. We also had fun pretending to be mechanics, mending the big cars before driving them around. In the Investigation Area we have been looking for pirate treasure in the sandpit, building with Duplo and other construction toys.

We have been using our Fine Motor Skills to scoop and thread. For our Art project we made our very own Magic Porridge Pots with glittery stars and puffy paint that looked like porridge.

What a fun and busy week!
