This week we have been exploring Space with our Topic Story, ‘Space Song Rocket Ride’ by Sunny Scribens. The story talks about the solar system and is sung rather than read. The Chicks have enjoyed joining in with the singing and exploring Space in our Role Play Area.
To accompany our Topic Story our Art project has involved creating our own galaxy of planet sun-catchers. The Chicks enjoyed this activity, using their Fine Motor Skills to place the coloured shapes inside the circular planets and have been excited to see them up on the window, especially with the sun shining through.
During Science this week we were thinking about and continuing our learning about how plants grow. We sliced tomatoes and planted them in the soil. They are sitting on the windowsill in the sunshine and we will water them and watch to see if they grow.
Outside in the Investigation Area, alongside our play in the sandpit and mud kitchen, we have been playing musical instruments and exploring colour and shape. In the Outdoor Learning Environment we have been practising our Gross Motos skills with plenty of running and jumping and climbing as well as getting in practise for our Sports Day races.
We have looked at the planets in our own solar system, counting them and picking out the biggest and smallest and of course identifying our own planet Earth.
It has been another lovely week of learning for the Chicks at 345 Wandsworth.
