This week, the Chicks explored shapes through a variety of engaging activities designed to enhance their shape recognition skills.
In the classroom, the children used shape stencils to trace and draw shapes on paper, completed a dinosaur-themed shape puzzle, and arranged shaped carpet tiles to create a path. They then used this path to practise their jumping skills, combining physical activity with shape recognition. During our Outdoor Learning Walk, the Chicks participated in a shape hunt, identifying different shapes in their environment. To reinforce their learning, we discussed shapes during Circle Time and searched for them in objects around the classroom. The children also completed an activity sheet where they matched everyday objects to their corresponding shapes.
Our topic story, Mad About Dinosaurs!, sparked lively conversations among the Chicks. They learned the names of various dinosaurs and identified some of their unique features. This led seamlessly into our Art activity, where the children used paper shapes to create their own dinosaurs. Later in the week, the Chicks explored measurement and mixing during our Cookery session, making dinosaur-shaped butter biscuits with cutters.
The Chicks thoroughly enjoyed immersing themselves in the Building Site Role Play area, where they engaged in imaginative play. During Music with Mr Alex, they enthusiastically sang their favourite nursery rhymes, including La Vaca Lola. To further develop their fine motor skills, the Chicks participated in a Write Dance session, focusing on practising circular movements with care and precision.
We are excited to welcome you next week at 345 Wandsworth for more fun and learning!
