This week the Chicks' Topic story was the classic fairytale ’The Ugly Duckling’ by Campbells first stories. The story is about a little bird who is teased and rejected because he looks different from the other ducklings. Feeling sad and alone, he goes on a journey in search of belonging. Over time, he grows and changes, eventually discovering that he is not a duck at all, but a beautiful swan. The story teaches important lessons about acceptance, self discovery, and how our differences make us special. It’s a heart warming reminder that everyone had their own time to shine.

Throughout the week the children have engaged in a variety of activities from playing with the small World Peppa Pig Vehicles and characters, the cars and garage and vet surgery all of which captured their imaginative play and sharing skills. They explored playdough and made imprints in the dough using cars which encouraged their creativity and fine motor skills.

In the Outdoor Learning Environment, the children worked on their gross motor skills. They threw bean bags through hoops, crawled through the tunnels and played with the large trains.

The children continued to show their love for puzzles as they collaborated to complete the various puzzles, practising their problem solving skills. The children played with the ducks, frogs and fish in the Water Tray and enjoyed singing ‘Five Little Ducks Went Swimming One Day’.

One of the Chicks Focus Lesson was all about celebrating our differences. We had thoughtful discussions about how we are all different, talking about our different hair colour, eye colour and skin tones. The children then created their own activity sheets, sticking on pictures of their friends.

This week children also went on their first learning walk to the Common. They were very excited to look for birds and where thrilled to spot pigeons, robins, and crows. They all held onto the rope and listened carefully to the instructions.
