The Fledglings have continued expanding on their interest in storytelling this week as we explored the Topic Books ‘Petal and Nettle and the Best Story Ever’. This was a story about a fairy who wanted to write his own story and enlisted the help of his friends to do so. The book really captured the children’s attention and we loved exploring small world play as we developed our own stories with our friends.

We used a variety of materials for our Art Project this week as the Fledglings designed their own story fairies using wooden spoons. Some children created one fairy, taking great care with their selection of materials while other children created families of fairies, each with different clothes, hairstyles and roles in the family.

As the year progresses the children have been gaining confidence and familiarity with our phonics program AnimaPhonics and this week during out Literacy Focus Time we enjoyed expanding their knowledge of digraphs, recapping some we have previously introduced and learning new ones.

During our Outdoor Learning Day the Fledglings learnt a new skill as we explored whittling. We gathered sticks and explained the safe precautions before the activity. The children wore gloves and used a vegetable peeler to strip the bark off of their chosen stick before adding colourful feathers to create their own wand to practise magic in the woods. What a wonderful week of learning!
