This week the Fledglings have enjoyed the lovely weather and spending lots of time outdoors. In the Outdoor Learning Environment we have been taking care of our plants and have been delighted to see that our strawberry plants have begun to produce fruit. We can’t wait until they are ripe and we can harvest them to enjoy during Snack Time. We also planted the seeds that we purchased at the Garden Centre and the children were able to recall the trip brilliantly, and could name the other items we bought.

During our Outdoor Learning Day we enjoyed a team building and communication challenge where we had to create an obstacle course in our groups for the other children to use. We had to discuss and make a decision about which resources we would use and how to set up the course before we explained to the other groups how to navigate it. This was lots of fun but also provided opportunities for the children to share their ideas, compromise on differing ideas, develop strength and coordination and explain their thought processes.

The children are enjoying using their phonics knowledge and we have seen the children building words with the skills we have developed throughout the year. Segmenting words helps to develop reading and spelling skills which they will use as they progress to reception.
