Fledglings News - 17th May 2024

This week the Fledglings have loved our interactive rhyming Topic Story When I Say Oh, You Say No. They had to pay close attention to the words and pictures in the story and respond with the correct actions and words. We have been very impressed at how quickly they picked up on the concept and how they were able to follow the whole story. We took inspiration from the book for our Art project which involved the children creating their own bear ears to join in with the bear dance from the story.

Our trip to the Secret Garden at Finton House this week was a huge highlight for the Fledglings and we enjoyed observing the many changes to the garden which has bloomed during the sunny weather. There were lots of new flowers and fruits appearing and ripening and the children thrived on showing the Pink Chicks around as they joined us for their first visit to the Garden.

We have continued to build on the children’s phonetic development with a variety of activities in both small and key group activities and one-to-one work, as well as other areas of literacy such as rhyming which our Topic Story supported.

Our Person of Interest for this term is Serena Williams, and as we prepare for Sports Day we have been looking at how her perseverance and determination can influence and encourage us to give it our best. We are also delighted to be able to welcome some parents and relatives into the classroom to share their jobs and hobbies with us in relation to this topic. We have been joined so far by a GP and a virtual reality designer which has been fascinating for the children.
