Fledglings News - 18th October 2024

This week in the Fledglings classroom we have been focusing on numbers and to support this our Topic story was None the Number by Oliver Jeffers. The children loved learning about the numbers and of we discovered that ‘none’ is a number too.

We had lots of different counting activities on the tables for the children to explore further. They loved hiding the numbers in the kinetic sand and making imprints with them. They also made towers with the different construction blocks, counting the blocks and comparing the different sizes of the towers.

Our Maths Focus activity was taking one away from a given number. It was brilliant to see how quickly so many of the children grasped this concept.

The Fledgling Role Play area was turned into a Hairdresser Salon where the children were busy taking on the various roles within the salon. Miss Emma was a wonderful client and came out with the most outstanding new hair style.

This week the children went to the ‘Secret Garden’ at Finton House for their Outdoor Learning Day. They all listened well while waiting for the bus on the way there and back. Once in the Secret Garden there was a lot to explore. The children loved climbing the small tree and stepping over the tree stumps, watching out for the wobbly stump. They found lots of snails hiding in various places and the Fledglings enjoyed leaf rubbing using ink and a rolling pin to get the effects of the pattern of their leaf.
