The Fledglings have had a busy week with two big trips at the end of the week. Our Topic Story was 123’s of Art and incorporated counting with a selection of different famous works of art. It really captured the children’s attention and they loved finding out when each painting was made. We took inspiration from the book and the children created several pieces of art from the book using collage, chalks and watercolours to recreate pictures in the book.
In the classroom we explored volume in Maths and extended this into the Outdoor Learning Environment where the children loved pouring with the jugs. Construction activities with Stickle Bricks and blocks has supported the children’s turn taking skills and our Creation Station has been busy with the children designing lots of presents for their family members.
Our first trip of the week was to visit the Secret Garden at Finton House School. We took the bus which delighted the children and supported their number recognition, navigation and social skills. Once we arrived we were lucky enough to see some of last year’s Fledglings who showed us around. We then joined in with a Sports session. It was so much fun!
Our second trip was by coach to the Dulwich Picture Gallery, consolidating and expanding our learning from our Art Exhibition in the Spring Term. The children were fascinated by the different pictures and explored in detail a painting of Queen Victoria as a four year old, an old clock, paintings of 17th century London and two identical paintings painted 200 years apart. We then enjoyed a snack and some play in the beautiful gardens. A super week in the Fledglings!
