Fledglings News - 21st October 2022

The Fledglings have had a busy week despite being a few days shorter due to the start of the half term holiday. Our focus for this week had been introducing the children to the story of Diwali and the different ways it is celebrated.

We extended our learning across the week with a number of Diwali themed activities and in Art the children made diya’s using salt dough which they shaped around a tea light before decorating them using paint, sequins, glitter and colourful sand.

The children particularly loved using the role play masks of the different characters from the Diwali story and worked together to design a bridge so they could rescue Sita from the island prison where she had been kept by the demon king.

We have also enjoyed a variety of pattern based activities including making shaving foam rangoli patterns, cotton bud fine motor skills painting, shape play with the digital light up board and folded paper cutting patterns.

For our literacy focused activity this week the children recalled the story of Rama and Sita, organising a sequence of pictures in the correct order. They then created booklets which they took home to share with their families. It was lovely to hear them talking about who they would share them with and the excitement they expressed in retelling the details in the story.

As always the children have been busy and active in our wonderful Outdoor Learning Environments. From climbing the climbing frame to creating wonderful dishes in the mud kitchen the children love being outside and playing together.

Have a wonderful half term break and we can't wait to welcome you back after the holidays!
