There has been lots of excitement in the Fledglings classroom this week as we begin our preparations for Christmas. Every year the children design a selection of gifts to take home and we endeavour to keep these as a surprise for the families. As we begin the festive season the classroom has been filled with Christmas related activities and the children are showing lots of engagement with the activities and making links between their learning from last year and our current activities.
This weeks Topic Story is Ten Little Elves which is a lovely rhyming, counting book which the children excitedly join in with as the elves venture off to save Christmas. The themes from the book have been woven into our play this week as the children have built toys and a grotto with Duplo and wooden blocks, searched for presents hiding in the woods during Outdoor Learning Day and hung stockings on the fireplace by sequencing the numbers inside each sock. One of our most popular activities this week however was our wrapping station where the children could cover boxes in tissue paper and seal it with tape. It was a great activity for building scissor skills, hand strength and coordinating bilateral movements.
We are in full swing of Nativity rehearsals and the children are doing a great job at remembering their lines and singing the songs. This is the focus for our Music lessons with Mr Alex and the children are doing a brilliantly. In order for the children to practise we have rearranged the classroom to accommodate the scenery and this has been fascinating to the children and has sparked lots of discussion and built new vocabulary.
We can’t wait to share all the exciting, festive moments coming up over the next few weeks!
